Support Girls For A Change on Giving Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Theta Nu Xi, Girls for a Change, Giving Tuesday The Founders of Theta Nu Xi were young women who saw a need for a different type of Sorority, so they created it. Like our Founders, the young women supported by Girls For A Change (GFaC), our national philanthropy, are identifying needs and issues within their communities, and are taking the steps to address those needs.

Yes, Girls can change the world! Girls For A Change was founded in 2000 and has provided the tools, partnerships and support teen Girls need to gain the voice, ability, and problem solving capacity to realize their full potential. In many cities across the country, Girl Action Teams of approximately ten Girls and two volunteer Coaches (women) meet to identify a community issue or problem that they want to impact. The Coaches teach the Girls essential project planning and execution skills to aid them in designing and implementing their social change project.

Every year thousands of Girls learn how to tackle community problems such as gang violence, low self-esteem, teen pregnancy, and environmental degradation. Imagine the possibilities if every year thousands of middle school and high school Girls learn how to tackle community problems. Picture the huge number of powerful women leaders driving local communities, and the world, toward success and well-being.

“Girls are Strong, Girls are Smart and Girls ARE CHANGING OUR WORLD!

GFaC Blog Post Image 1Starting in 2008, GFaC took its annual Girl Summit, a daylong conference on the road. Each year over 2,500 Girls and 400 women are given the tools to create social change in their community through our Change Your World Trainings. The trainings also include teaching Girls what social change is and showing Girls examples of a diverse group of social change makers.

In keeping with the essence of Change Your World Trainings, GFaC’s goal is to reach even more Girls and women. In the upcoming year, GFaC would like to partner with Girl-centered clubs, community groups, and organizations to assist equipping their mentors, educators, volunteers and leaders through Girl Action Team Online Coach Trainings. The #GivingTuesday campaign will support the extension of Girl Action Teams and trainings in new communities across the country. Girls can change the world. They just need you to show them how.
