Theta Nu Xi’s 2012 National Convention is just a few weeks away! Read on for an inside scoop on Detroit and our plans for this amazing weekend! On behalf of Detroit sisters and the Convention Committee: WELCOME TO DETROIT!
On Friday, August 3rd, butterflies from all over the country will begin arriving in Detroit. If you are in need of transportation to or from the airport, be sure check in with the Convention Committee for more information. As you head out to Dearborn, you will drive past a few Detroit landmarks like The Big Tire, as well as a few shopping areas, and a ton of restaurants on the way to The Henry Hotel in Dearborn. The Henry is a boutique hotel which features modern, newly redesigned accommodations, along with public space that showcases contemporary artwork throughout the hotel. It’s like staying overnight in an art gallery!
As the official start of Convention, Friday will be a very busy day. From noon to 5pm, sisters will participate in legislation and workshops. In addition to the afternoon business sessions, GAP Sisters can close-out their day at the GAP Networking Hour beginning at 5pm. Many sisters will want to head out for dinner, but with so many options to choose from, this will be a daunting decision. Are you looking for somewhere upscale or with a 4 Diamond rating like The Whitney or Iridescence? Or something fun and interactive like The Melting Pot or Benihana? But if you want to really try Detroit on for size, check out some of the city’s classic spots like American Coney Island, PizzaPapalis in Greektown or Miller’s? But when dinner over, it’s time for entertainment! Sisters can see a new release at the AMC Theatre, catch some laughs at a comedy club, sing a few songs at a local Karaoke Night, or just hang out at The Henry Hotel and make a few more butterflies for the service project. Sounds like an exciting day!
Saturday, August 4th, is all about community service and sisterhood! The day will start with the Convention 2012 service project. Though still a surprise for attendees, it’s sure to be something fun and hands on that will have a direct impact on the community. Saturday’s schedule also features workshops for sisters during the day, and GAP sisters will have another chance to connect at the Lavender Luncheon in the afternoon.
The Regional Sessions will begin after lunch, providing an opportunity to address regional business and connect with other sisters in your region. Workshops will also continue after the lunch hour.
Say Cheese! Be sure to arrive at 6 pm sharp for the annual Convention photo. We want to see everyone’s faces. The Butterfly Banquet will begin immediately after the photo. This is our time to celebrate individual and collective achievements during the 2011-2012 year, as well as reflect on the years that have passed and the future that is before us. After the banquet, the night is young and the opportunity for fun abounds.
On Sunday, August 5th, wear your Convention T-shirt to the Closing Ceremony, which is always emotional and amazing. Say farewell to sisters that you may have met in previous years, as well as to the new sisters you’ve met. And of course, before we close out Convention 2012, we’ll find out where the Convention 2013 will be! Where would you like to go?
Sisters…Detroit will never be the same! Be sure to check out the Convention teaser
